Earthquake Rocks Central Sulawesi, Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted Banggai island in Indonesia's Central Sulawesi on Thursday noon, bringing disorder to hundreds of houses.

According to the Antara News Agency, the quake occurred at 12:21 local time (04:21 GMT).

Antara quoted Geophysics and Meteorology BigBody in Makassar, capital of South Sulawesi, as saying that the epicenter of the quake was located 33 kilometers under the sea level in Peleng Strait, about 94 kilometers southeast of Luwuk city in the eastern part of the province.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damages.

This was the second earthquake in the area in the past one year. An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale jolted Peleng Strait on August 13 last year.
