Three Chinese Cities Report Hazardous Air

Three provincial capital cities in northern China reported hazardous air this week owing to windy weather or sandstorms that occurred at the end of April, the China Environmental Monitoring Center said Friday in its weekly air quality Report.

From April 28 to May 4, Lanzhou, Hohhot and Taiyuan reported hazardous air, while Beijing, Zhengzhou and Urumqi reported poor air.

Xi'an, Shijiazhuang, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing and seven other cities reported slight air pollution during the week.

Nineteen cities, including Suzhou, Nanchang, Shanghai, Changsha, and Kunming, enjoyed fairly good air, while Guangzhou, Guilin, Shantou, Haikou, Zhanjiang, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Beihai reported excellent air.

Lanzhou, Hohhot, Taiyuan and other 33 cities listed suspended particles as the major pollutant. Sulfur dioxide was the major pollutant in Chongqing and Guiyang.
