Compulsory Education Realized in Tibet

Reports from Tibet Autonomous Region say that 28 counties in Tibet have reached the target of popularizing 6-year compulsory education; 8 counties and areas achieved the goal of eliminating illiteracy.

Dangxiong County has first achieved the goal of popularizing 6-year compulsory education among Tibet's 25 animal husbandry counties. This has also made no exception with various counties directly under Lhasa. Outstanding is Chendguan District, with a 9-year compulsory education having been developed.

Altogether 12 counties in 5 areas including Ali, Qamdo, Shigatse, Linzhi and Shannan have developed 6-year compulsory education. Eight counties in Lhasa, Shannan, Linzhi, Shigatse cities have achieved the target of eliminating illiteracy. The goal for developing a 6-year compulsory education has also been made true in all 12 counties in Shannan area.
