Hu Jintao Meets Argentine Guest

Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao, also a standing committee member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, met Wednesday with former president of Argentina and president of the Justicialist Party Carlos Saul Menem.

Hu lauded Menem as a famous Latin-American statesman and also an old friend of the Chinese people, and gave high evaluation to his important contributions to China-Argentina ties.

During the 28 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral ties have witnessed considerable progress, and productive cooperation has been carried out in political, economic, scientific, and other fields, Hu said.

China highly appreciates Argentina's support of China on the UN human rights Conference, he said, expressing the hope that both sides will deepen cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, equality, and benefit in order to lift bilateral ties to a new high.

The Communist Party of China is willing to further expand cooperation with the Justicialist Party of Argentina based on principles governing party-to-party relations, he noted. Menem said he has deep affection toward China and the Chinese people, and China's dramatic changes and its eye-catching development are of great significance to the Asian region and even the entire world, he noted.

He expressed gratification over the development of bilateral relations during his 10-year presidential term, and said he will continue to work for more cooperation between the two countries and closer contact between the Communist Party of China and the Justicialist Party of Argentina.
