China Forms Mobile Telecommunications Group

China Mobile Telecommunications Group Company officially opened this morning, and is expected to be an integral part of the effort to reform the telecommunications system.

The company is a state-owned enterprise reorganized in the process of the country's telecommunications industry reshuffle. It has subsidiary companies in 25 provinces, including China Telecom (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd, and its business covers mobile phone, data, IP and multimedia.

Its networks have covered all the prefectures and 96 percent of the counties in China. It also opened roaming service in 56 countries.

The company has 45 million users, reportedly the world's largest GSM operator.

Li Peng, chairman of Standing Committee of the National People' s Congress, wrote a letter of congratulations for the opening ceremony.
