Chinese Grain Producer Attracts Overseas Funds

East China's Anhui Province, a major grain producer, saw a surge in overseas investment in the first three months this year.

Official figures indicate that the province approved 48 overseas-funded enterprises in the quarter, with a total contractual overseas investment of US$140 million, an increase of 176 percent on a yearly basis.

These projects involve such areas as agriculture, machinery, telecommunications and power.

An official with the Anhui Provincial Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Commission attributed the growth to an improving business environment in the province.

Anhui has issued a series of new policies to attract business people from abroad since last year, including measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of overseas investors.

Special centers have been established across the province to deal with complaints from overseas investors.
