China, France Cooperate on Industrial Waste Incineration
China and France recently signed an agreement to jointly invest 70 million yuan (US$8.5 million) in setting up a large-scale incineration center in Tianjin to handle poisonous industrial waste.
The center, the first of its kind in China, will be built by the Vivendi Cjea Group of France and the Tianjin Environmental Protection Bureau. It is scheduled for completion by the end of next year.
When the plant is in operation,it will recycle about 1,000 tons of heavy metal, chemical and organic solvents annually, while handling 6,200 tons of landfill waste material. Thus the center will deal with more than 95 percent of the poisonous waste in the municipality, and is expected to operate efficiently for about 20 years.
The center will adopt technologies from both China and France, and experts believe the advanced technologies used in the center will be gradually passed on to other provinces.
