Chinese Foreign Minister Meets Rwandan Guests

Chinese Foreign Minster Tang Jiaxuan met in Beijing on May 19 with Andre Bumaya, minister of foreign affairs and regional cooperation of Rwanda, and his party.

The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

Tang said that the friendly cooperation between the two countries has been developing smoothly since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 29 years ago.

China values Rwandan government's "one China" position and is willing to work with Rwanda to push bilateral friendly relations to new heights in the new century, Tang noted.

Tang welcomed Bumaya to attend the "China-Africa Cooperation Forum -- Ministerial-Level Conference in Beijing in 2000", which will be held in October this year.

Bumaya reiterated Rwandan government's friendly policy toward China and spoke highly of China's initiative to hold the conference. He said that Rwanda will take an active part in the event and make contributions to the success of the conference.

The Rwandan guests are here to attend the Fourth Session of the China-Rwanda Joint Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation.
