China to Strengthen Culture Development in Its Western Areas
China will strengthen its western culture development strategy study and work out culture development plans in line with "Opinions on Western Culture Development" issued by the Ministry of Culture.
The "Opinions" calls on mass culture personnel to devote themselves to western areas development, and encourage them to create art works with strong regional, national characteristics unique of their own.
There are many priceless cultural and historical relics and objects of interest in the country's western areas. "Opinions" demand that cultural and relics departments at all levels attach great importance to cultural relics protection, prevent random exploitation and factitious destruction and protect the western areas' cultural and ecological environment as a whole.
"Opinions" also point out that the western areas are homelands to many ethnic groups, a treasure land of national arts and relics. Quickening culture construction and promoting the prosperity and development of ethnic art in western areas will show their fullest significance in promoting national union, social stability and reunification of China.
Culture infrastructure construction will be the focus of culture construction in western areas, with a public library network to be built and digitalized library service provided on a regional scale.
"Opinions" also demand effort for enhanced culture research and study, a full role to be played by culture in western development, and efforts to develop and utilize culture resources, promote culture industry development, strengthen culture exchange, and speed up the training of personnel in the region.
