Jiang's Thinking New Development of Marxist Party Building Theory

The recent important thinking of Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, represents a new development of Marxist Party-building theory, a Xinhua commentary says Wednesday.

During a recent inspection tour of south China's Guangdong Province, Jiang said the key to running China lies in the CPC, in its ideology, style of work, organization, discipline, and capabilities and leadership.

The CPC will remain successful and enjoy the heartfelt support of the people of China so long as the Party always earnestly represents the requirements of developing China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the Chinese people, Jiang said.

Jiang's important thinking summed up the historic experience of the CPC over the past 80 years, analyzed the lessons of the world's socialist movement, and answered questions the CPC has encountered in the country's reform and opening up and modernization drive.

The thinking also displays the spirit of emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts, and will serve as the guiding principle for Party-building in the new situation, the commentary stresses.

The commentary notes that Jiang's thinking is, first of all, a high and thorough condensation of the CPC's advanced features.

The CPC is the political leader and advanced representative of the working class, and its advanced features can vary from time totime.

Summing up the experience of the world's socialist movement, Jiang's thinking has brought to light the essence and implications of the Party's advanced features, and deepened the Party's understanding of itself.

That is, the Party must always earnestly represent the requirements of developing China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the Chinese people.

Jiang's thinking has also enriched and deepened the contents of the Party building, the commentary says.

During the revolutionary period and in times of war, the goal of Party building was to build up a political force that could lead the people forward and overthrow the reactionary rule. After taking power, the Party had shifted the goal to building itself into a strong leader of socialist construction.

Jiang's thinking has charted the orientation for Party building in the new century and for the advancement of China's reform and opening to the outside world as well as its ongoing modernization drive led by the Party, the commentary states.

While emphasizing Jiang's thinking as a new development of Marxist Party-building theory, the commentary calls on the whole Party to conscientiously study the "three representatives" thinking and take concrete measures to push forward the great cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.
