Visit Enhances Friendship with China, Says DPRK Newspaper

The recent visit to China by Kim Jong Il, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has further enhanced and developed the traditional friendship between the DPRK and China, said the official DPRK newspaper Rodong Sinmun Saturday.

Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK, paid an unofficial visit to China from May 29 to 31 at the invitation of Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of China.

The visit has deepened the friendly and cooperative relations between the two parties and the two peoples, and has proved that the solid and profound DPRK-China friendship has been inherited from generation to generation, said an editorial of the paper.

It is the common aspiration of the two peoples to inherit, enhance and develop their friendship, and to strengthen the friendship at the turn of the century when the world situation is complicated and volatile conforms to the interests of the two peoples and is conducive to peace in the Asian-Pacific region and the world at large, it noted.

The Korean people believe that the friendship will be further strengthened and developed with the passage of time, it added.
