China's Internet Development Hindered by Narrow Bandwidth
Zhang Chunjiang, Vice-Minister of the Information Industry, today said that the most severe problem China's Internet development facing is the narrow bandwidth.
He adressed the China Inet 2000 Beijing opened here today that China's current basic Internet network can not meet the demand with narrow bandwidth, high prices and unstable services. He said that the country should introduce competition to the industry and woo more investment to solve the problem.
Since the 1990s, China's Internet has witnessed rapid development. The number of Internet users have been estimated as more than 10 million so far. The increasing Chinese websites and new services, such as e-commerce and e-education are changing the style of life of the Chinese people.
Zhang admitted that some other problems, such as the hacker, virus, and bad information in the Internet, were shared by other countries and China.
At the four-day China Inet 2000 Beijing, experts will have opportunities to discuss latest technological development and services with some 100 keynote and technical speeches.
