China Active in International Demining EffortsA group of 24 people from Rwanda, Angola, Mozambique and Ethiopia finished a 20-day mine-defusing training course at the Chinese People's Liberation Army Science and Engineering University and returned to their countries on Sunday.The program, co-organized by China and the United Nations, was part of China's active efforts in international demining activities. Trainees in the course were from those countries that have suffered from land mine devastation. According to experts, nearly 110 million undefused land mines remain in more than 70 countries worldwide, posing a threat to people's life and property. After launching two massive demining campaigns in its border regions in recent years, the Chinese government has committed to engaging in international demining efforts by offering assistance in training, and equipment to all countries that need the help. The Chinese government has already made financial donations to the demining activities in Bosnia-Herzegovina. China has also allocated funds for providing mine-sweeping equipment for mine-plagued countries. |
