Visitors to HK Expected to Numerically Exceed 12 Million: Tung Chee Hwa

Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tung Chee Hwa, after attending a dragon boat race on June 6, declared that with the economic recovery of the Southeast Asian region, the tourism industry of Hong Kong has seen a desirable growth and it's expected to receive over 12 million tourists by the end of this year.

He said that this year's dragon boat race has attracted not only local people, but also a lot of non-local travelers. In the first four months, Hong Kong had received 4.1 million tourists, a 15 percent rise, and the number of tourists is expected to exceed 12 million in the whole year, reaching an all-time high.

He also said that Hong Kong, a lovely place, is both an international metropolis and a large city full of traditional culture. We will make efforts to maintain these characters and encourage the Council and social organizations of the SAR to host more activities with traditional characteristics to draw more tourists, to push forward the development of tourism, to create more job opportunities and support economic growth.
