E-business to Boost China's Economy
The Chinese government intends to promote electronic business and use it to spur the national economy, an official with the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) said Thursday at a forum in Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang province.
Speaking at a trade fair in Zhejiang, Song Ling, director of the department of information promotion of MII, said that E-business will boost the national economy and upgrade people's living standards.
However, China is still a newcomer to the E-commerce phenomenon, Song said, noting that the world trade volume of E-business hit US$145 billion last year, but China only took in US$6.6 million.
China is busy making policies for the information industry related to taxes, patents, and information security, and will carry out E-business trial operation in some areas, Song said.
China has more than 10 million Internet users, and the figure is expected to double by the end of this year.
