New Nature Reserve to Be Built in Three Rivers' Fountainheads
A vast nature reserve will be established along the fountainheads of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers in the heartland of the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau.
The reserve will function to protect the natural ecological environment and wild plants and animals from disturbance and destruction in this place, restore and maintain a virtuous cycle of the eco-system, ensure sustained supply of clean water in the fountainheads of the three rivers and guarantee ample water supply and the eco-environmental safety on the middle and lower reaches of said rivers.
The fountainheads of the three rivers lie in Qinghai Province's Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu between Kunlun and Tanggula Mountains. The mountains have nurtured numerous big and small rivers and provided habitat for various precious and rare wild animals like wild yak, wild donkey, Tibetan chamois and black-neck crane.
