Hungary Reaffirms Adherence to One China Policy

Hungary adheres to its one China policy and is willing to develop friendly exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields, Hungarian President Goncz Arpad said Friday.

Goncz made the comment during his meeting with Buhe, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), who arrived here Tuesday for a four-day visit.

Goncz said that Hungary attaches great importance to its relations with China, and will stick to its one China policy, while maintaining only non-governmental economic and trade ties with Taiwan.

Buhe expressed his appreciation to Goncz for Hungary's stance toward the Taiwan issue, and hailed the development of Sino- Hungarian relations.

He hoped that Hungary and China would further develop bilateral ties on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect.

Buhe will leave Hungary Saturday for Romania to continue his four-nation European tour, which has also taken him to Poland and the Czech Republic.
