Yu Youjun Elected Shenzhen Mayor

Yu Youjun was elected Saturday mayor of Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province. Yu, 47, became head of the publicity department of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1993.

He is also a member of the standing committee of the CPC provincial committee. He was elected mayor of Shenzhen at the third plenary session of the third Municipal People's Congress of Shenzhen.

Meanwhile, 54-year-old Zhang Gaoli, secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, was elected chairman of Shenzhen Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee.

Delegates to the meeting also elected eight vice-chairpersons of the Shenzhen People's Congress and seven vice-mayors.
