Drug Traffickers Sentenced in Guangdong

A court in south China's Guangdong Province has sentenced a drug trafficker to death and his two accomplices to life in prison.

Another man involved in the case is still being questioned by police.

The trio were convicted of smuggling and transporting 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, known as "ice," from China to Indonesia in late 1998.

The case was uncovered by the police at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in the province when the gang tried to air mail the drugs hidden in four VCDs.

The suspects were apprehended in March and August last year. Last week, the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court sentenced Zhu Zexin, the leader of the group, to death with two years of reprieve.

Two accessories, Xie Zhanfeng and Lai Wenan, were sentenced to life imprisonment and stripped of their political rights for life. In addition, all of their personal property was confiscated.

The Indonesian police have also seized several suspects connected with the case.
