Scientists Call for Scientific Health Care

A group of scientists including medical experts attending a seminar held by the China Association for Science and Technology Tuesday called for scientific health care against superstition and pseudoscience.

Zheng Jinsheng, a research fellow with the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said, "A number of Chinese people now hold some misunderstandings concerning health care, which encourages new form of superstition and pseudoscience in the name of science in China."

He said that the banned Falun Gong is superstition using science and religion terms to mislead people.

Professor Zhang Kan with the Chinese Medical Association said that 70 percent of being healthy comes from the individual. " Science will teach you how to look after your health."

He also warned that health care product advertisements often provide misleading information.

Wang Kui, professor with the Beijing Medical Sciences University and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that simple words are needed in the popularization of science.
