Chinese Co. Able to Connect Mobile Phones with Internet

China has mastered key technology for connecting the Internet with mobile phones -- the WAP ( wireless application protocol) network.

The technology was developed by the Beijing Guoyan Telecom Technology Company Ltd.

The company put on show a series of services by the WAP network, including mobile office, mobile stock exchange, news reports and weather forecasts, at a press conference held on June 21.

WAP technology was known by only a few leading mobile phone manufacturers including Ericsson, Nokia and Motorola. The foreign companies, however, face big challenges in entering the Chinese market in terms of localization, habits of Chinese users and government policies.

The Beijing Guoyan Company, cooperating with Beijing Posts and Telecom University, has become the first Chinese telecom enterprise that has the intellectual rights of the WAP network, following nearly ten months of research.
