China to Deepen Reform of Higher Education

China will complete its reform of higher education within the coming five years, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced in Beijing on Tuesday.

The reform primarily aims to nurture quality personnel who have both creative spirit and practical ability so that university- level teaching skills will be improved.

Through the reform, the MOE hopes to open a number of new courses, add teaching materials and software, establish several outstanding teaching bases, train an army of highly qualified teachers, and set up an appraisal system of teaching in higher education.

China now has over 3,000 universities, with more than three million students.
