CPPCC Chairman Meets Romanian Parliamentary Delegation

Li Ruihuan Meets with Romanian Senate Chairman
Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met today with Mincea Ionescu-Quintus, chairman of Romania's Senate, and his delegation.

Li said that China and Romania have a time-honored friendship, and friendly relations between the two countries and peoples have been developing steadily despite changes which have taken place in the international arena and their respective countries.

He added that the main reason why the two countries have had good relations is that they respect each other's choice of development road, in accordance with their respective conditions, and share the same sincere hope that the two countries may enjoy economic development and prosperity, and that their peoples will live happy lives.

Li said that the CPPCC and Romania's Senate play important roles in their respective countries, and the strengthening of exchanges between them will help promote the development of relations between the two countries and peoples.

He also thanked the Romanian government and parliament for their support for China on the issues of Taiwan and human rights.

Agreeing with Li's comment on bilateral relations, Ionescu-Quintus said that a traditional Sino-Romanian friendship not only exists between leaders of the two countries, but is also deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples.

Romania is fully prepared to promote its cooperation with China in a variety of areas, he added, expressing the belief that his China visit would help enhance mutual trust and understanding between the two sides.

He said that Romania supports China's policy of ``one country, two systems," and that he believes that such a policy will be fully successful.

The Romanian delegation arrived here this afternoon for a week-long visit at the CPPCC's invitation.
