China Demanding Vehicles to Use Clean Gasoline

China is demanding vehicles in its major cities to use a new sort of clean gasoline in an effort to curb heavy pollution.

According to an order issued recently by the government, the new gasoline will be available this month in Beijing and Tianjin in the north and Guangzhou in the south.

Officials said that China has invested more than ten billion yuan (about 1.2 billion US dollars) to upgrade the depurative techniques and facilities.

The new gasoline can reduce car emissions by 50 percent, and save oil by 3 to 5 percent, according to the sources.

The gasoline will be introduced nationwide in 2003.
