Macao Govt to Tighten Management of Gambling Industry

The government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will set up a special committee for more studies on the future development and management of gambling industry.

The committee is to be chaired by the Chief Executive of the SAR, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, and members come from related departments of the SAR government, according to a press release issued in Macao Monday by the Information Services of the SAR government.

Combined with tourism, gambling has been a major source of government revenue in Macao.

Ho Hau Wah said early this year that the SAR government is able to manage gambling industry well and ensure social prosperity and security.

However, he noted that the government definitely will not allow organized gangs to win over the monopoly of the gambling industry in Macao and develop themselves inside the business.
