Police Target crimes in Recreational Spots
The Ministry of Public Security Friday announced it has launched a nationwide campaign to battle prostitution, gambling, drug abuse and trafficking from July to September.
At a news briefing today, a ministry spokesman said the drive is to further clamp down on illegal activities in recreational businesses that are vulnerable to "evil social phenomena."
During the campaign, police will join other government departments to deal with poor management, disorder and hidden problems concerning the safety of these happy-go-lucky sites.
Underage people are not allowed to enter recreational facilities that are open only to adults, he said.
Investigations will be launched into reports that some law- enforcement officers are directly involved in prostitution, gambling and drug-related crimes.
Places that will be most closely monitored in the crackdown include dance halls, saunas and public bathing places, video arcades, beauty salons, tea-houses, bars, Internet cafes, and hotels.
