Senior CPC Official Meets ROK Grand National Party Delegation

Jiang Chunyun, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Wednesday with a delegation of the Grand National Party (GNP) of the Republic of Korea (ROK).

The ROK delegation was led by Lee Sei-Kee, chairman of the South-North Relations Special Committee of the GNP, who has visited China many times.

Jiang Chunyun, also vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, congratulated the summit between top leaders of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) not long ago, and expressed the hope that the DPRK-ROK relations continue to improve.

The senior Chinese official reiterated the principled stand of the CPC and the Chinese Government on maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Jiang expressed satisfaction over the development of Sino-ROK relations since the two countries established diplomatic relations eight years ago. He also briefed the ROK delegation on China's strategy to develop its vast western region and the economic situation as a whole.

Lee said ROK-China relations have grown smoothly over the past eight years. He added that the GNP hopes to increase the friendly exchanges with the CPC, and hope to promote a continuous and healthy development of the overall relations between the two countries.

The ROK delegation arrived here on July 4 at the invitation of the CPC.
