Beijing Banquet Marks China-DPRK Friendship Treaty

The ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to China, Chu Chang Jun, hosted a banquet Tuesday evening, marking the 39th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the two countries.

Buhe, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said on the occasion that Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, paid a successful visit to China not long ago as guest of Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. During the visit, leaders of the two countries exchanged views on further promote relations between the two parties and countries and on issues of common concern including international and regional situation, and reached consensus.

Buhe expressed his belief that with joint efforts, China-DPRK friendship will develop further in the new century.

Chu Chang Jun called Kim Jong Il's visit to China an important event in bilateral relations, adding that the DPRK is fully prepared to promote cooperation with China in political, economic and other areas.
