Youth Urged to Work for Development

The All-China Youth Federation (ACYF) will continue to encourage youngsters to use their knowledge of technology for economic development, especially in the country's western regions.

The federation plans to establish more service organizations for young scientists in the next five years to help their technological innovation practice, said Bayin Chaolu, a senior federation official, at the first session of the Ninth Committee of ACYF on Wednesday.

Bayin Chaolu suggested that venture capital investment be established in areas to help these young scientific workers.

The activities, such as organizing young entrepreneurs to invest in the west, will be continued during the next five years.

Meanwhile, more chances will be created for youngsters across the straits to understand each other better in the future.

"Young people of the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan shall work together for the early reunification of our motherland,'' Bayin said.

ACYF members donated 1.3 million yuan (US$156,000) Wednesday to an activity designed by the federation to protect China's rivers, including the Yellow and Yangtze rivers.

Founded on May 4, 1949, ACYF is a non-governmental organization of Chinese young people. Nearly 1,200 members attended the first session of the Ninth Committee of ACYF, which started on Monday and will end on Saturday.
