Beijing Welcomes Taiwan People to Visit Mainland
A senior Chinese official said here today that Beijing welcomes parties, groups and persons from all walks of life in Taiwan to exchange views with the mainland on opposing "Taiwan Independence" and improving and developing cross-Straits relations.
Li Bingcai, deputy director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when meeting with a delegation from Taiwan's Kuomintang (Nationalist Party).
He said that it is the common aspiration for compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits to improve and develop cross-Straits relations.
The one-China principle is the basis for easing up, stabilizing and developing the relations, according to Li.
He urged Taiwan's new leader to clearly vow not to play the "two states" trick, and to adhere to the principle that both sides admit that there is but one China. By doing this, dialogue between the two sides can be reopened, he noted.
He also called for expanding cross-Straits economic cooperation.
