China To Refurbish Tomb of Slave-Born Premier

The tomb of China's first prime minister of slave origin, Yi Yin, will be refitted to attract more tourists, an official source said.

The city government of Shangqiu in central China's Henan Province has decided to make the tomb an attractive tourism site. According to local officials, Yi Yin was born some 3,600 years ago. Despite being of slave origin, he was intelligent and brave, and finally appointed the prime minister of the Shang Dynasty ( 21st-16th century BC).

Legend has it that Yi Yin was also the earliest decoctor of herbal medicines, and died at the age of 100. His tomb is located in Yucheng County, near Shangqiu, where ancient cypresses still flourish and a temple to him is located.
