Chinese Hacker Sentenced to One-Year Imprisonment
Wang Bo, the first convicted hacker in central China's Henan Province, said he would appeal to the higher court after being sentenced to one-year imprisonment Tuesday by a district court in this provincial capital.
Wang, 23, was charged with destroying computer data system. He was a former employee of the China Pacific Insurance Company Ltd. in Zhengzhou.
He had hacked into the company's database five times by June 15 last year, and altogether deleted 1,510 policy records from the computer system, altered the premium and benefit payment schedules of more than 10,000 policy records, and changed the company's service telephone number.
As a result of Wang's alterations, the insurance company issued 480 policies containing errors, which "seriously disrupted normal business," according to a company spokesman.
Wang said he did this to take revenge on his former boss, as he was very unhappy with the company.
