Hu Praises Chinese Thais, Chinese for Promoting Sino-Thai Ties

Visiting Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao on Thursday highly praised Chinese Thais and Chinese in Thailand for their "ardor and wisdom" in promoting friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Hu also praised the royal family and government of Thailand for their longtime practice of a conciliatory nationality policy.

He made the remarks at a grand banquet jointly sponsored by the Thai business circle and local Chinese communities attended by over 1000 people.

Hu noted that Thai businessmen, Chinese Thais and Chinese in Thailand have made abundant fruitful contributions to boosting the friendship between the two peoples and bilateral trade and economic ties between the two nations.

Boonsong Srifuengfung, Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Thailand also spoke at the banquet to extend warm welcome to Hu on his official visit to Thailand.

In Bangkok, the Chinese vice-president has held meetings with Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai, parliament president Bhichai Rattakul, President of Privy Council Prem Tinsulannonda, and leaders of the main ruling and opposition parties.

He also has met the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyade and the Queen Sirikit Kitiyakorn at the Summer Palace in Hua Hin, 170 kilometers south of Bangkok.

Hu, who arrived here Tuesday evening for an official visit, is scheduled to leave Bangkok for Chiang Mai, the second-largest city in the country, Friday morning.
