Huge Sums Spent on Heritage Sites in Xinjiang

China will invest a huge sum into preservation projects for four famous heritage sites in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The sites are the Kizil Thousand Buddha Grottoes, the grottoes in Kumutula, 30 kilometers southwest of Kuqa County, the ancient Ili garrison headquarters in Huocheng County, and a temple in Jimsar County, Guangming Daily reported Thursday.

The State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH) will pour eight million yuan (about 964,000 US dollars) into repairs of the Kizil Grottoes, which include 236 caves and are listed as one of the four most famous ancient cave buildings.

Repairs on the other three sites are scheduled to start soon, the newspaper said.
