Overseas-funded Firms Contribute 44 Percent of China's Exports

Overseas-funded enterprises in China contribute 44 percent of the country's exports, according to the latest research report.

The report was released by the Private Economy Research Center under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Overseas-funded enterprises have made increasing contributions to the country's exports, with their total exports growing at an annual 31 percent since 1991, the report says.

These enterprises make up 15 percent of the country's gross industrial product. "It is hard to imagine China keeping its annual economic growth rate of 10 percent without contributions from overseas-funded enterprises," the report says.

The proportion coming from overseas-funded enterprises in China 's annual revenues is about 14 percent, below that of the state- owned and collective-owned enterprises, but higher than the contribution of the private and self-employed sectors.

According to figures revealed in the report, overseas-funded enterprises employ 5.8 million people, accounting for three percent of the country's total employees.

Overseas-funded enterprises, totalling about 230,000 at present, fall into two categories: those set up by foreign enterprises and those from China's Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
