213 Die in Northwest China Flood

Devastating floods producing landslides and mud-rock flows have killed 213 people in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

Floods triggered by rainstorms hit Ankang Prefecture from July 11 to 14, destroying 4,000 houses and damaging transportation routes and communications lines as well as water control facilities.

Ziyang County in the prefecture suffered the most, with 202 deaths reported.

Army soldiers have been dispatched to the scene for disaster relief. Several central government departments have also sent work teams to the flooded region.
