Hong Kong has granted a donation of 3 million HK dollars (385,000 US dollars) to the United Nations Children's Fund for emergency relief to drought victims in eastern Africa.

The countries to receive the donation are Ethiopia, Kenya, Eritrea, Somalia and Djibouti, said a spokesman for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Friday.

Together with earlier grants of 2.78 million HK dollars to World Vision Hong Kong and 2 million HK dollars to Oxfam Hong Kong for relief to famine victims in Ethiopia, the total grants approved by Hong Kong's Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee for the serious drought in eastern Africa have amounted to 7.78 million HK dollars.
