China, Indonesia Sign Legal Assistance Accord

China and Indonesia signed in Jakarta Monday a legal assistance accord, with an aim to enhance bilateral cooperation in dealing with criminal matters.

The document, named "Treaty Between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Indonesia on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters," was signed by Chinese Ambassador Chen Shiqiu and Indonesian Director General of the Department of Law and Legislation Romli Atamsasmita.

Visiting Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao and Indonesian Vice President Megawati Soekarno Putri took part in the signing ceremony, immediately after they had talks.

Questioned by reporters after the signing ceremony, the two leaders described the talks as fruitful.

Hu arrived in Jakarta Sunday for an official visit to Indonesia, the third leg of his current Asian-European tour covering five nations.
