New Attraction Planned for South China's Sanya

A new man-made isle and a new passenger berth will be built in offshore areas near Sanya, a popular tourist destination on the southern tip of Hainan Province.

According to local sources, the projected isle and berth will be constructed by Zhongcheng International Passenger Transport and Tourism Development Co. Ltd of Sanya, with designs provided by the No.4 Navigational Projects Survey and Design Institute of the Chinese Ministry of Communications.

The man-made isle will cover an area of 33.3 hectares and the new berth will have a dead weight tonnage (DWT) of 40,000. The two projects, planned to cost about 80 million yuan, will take two years to finish.

The new tourist attractions are designed to stand strong storms and tidal waves and to host 600,000 passengers annually.
