German Metro Opens 7th Supermarket in China

Germany's Metro AG, the world's No. 2 chain-store dealer, opened a warehouse supermarket Thursday in Fuzhou, capital of east China's Fujian province, the 7th big supermarket ever opened by Metro in China.

The big supermarket covers more than 40,000 sq m of floor space and costs 20 million US dollars.

Metro gains 80 percent of its profits by purchasing big batches of commodities from producers worldwide at much lower cost and then targets wholesale-oriented consumers.

A Metro spokesman said 10 more supermarkets will be opened in China by next year.
