Overseas Chinese Plant Trees in Beijing

Some 2,000 overseas youngsters of Chinese origin along with local youths from Beijing gathered in Beijing Friday to plant trees at the foot of the Great Wall.

The overseas Chinese descendants, from 35 foreign nations and regions, were participating in a program known as "Chinese Century Forest of Overseas Youths of Chinese Origin."

They have been here attending a summer camp themed on tracing family trees, at the invitation of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council.

On the Great Wall, the visitors signed a banner in support of Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games.

They plan to join a series of cultural activities in the Chinese capital from July 28-31, according to organizers of today' s outing.
