Second Fishing Ban in South China Sea Ends August 1The second fishing ban in South China Sea in 2000, from June 1 to August 1, will end today, said Liu Guojun, a senior official with the Ministry of Agriculture Monday.The fishing ban covered an area two times larger than the same period last year, involving 40,000 fishing boats and nearly 500, 000 fishing labor, announced Liu at a press conference held here. Fisherman were not greatly affected by the ban during the two month period, Liu added. Fishing resources in South China Sea, which contains one-fourth of China's aquatic products, have been gradually reduced due to overfishing in the past few years. |
