"One China" Policy: Real Popular Will of the Chinese People

An improved relation between the Taiwan Straits under the "One China" prerequisite is the real cross-Straits will of the Chinese people, the Beijing-based Straits Relations magazine said in its latest edition, according to Chinadaily.

The monthly-magazine, founded by the Association of Relations Across Taiwan Straits (ARATS), affirmed that the central government has done strenuous efforts to improve cross-Straits relations in the past.

Since May 20, on which Taiwan's new leader Chen Shui-bian assumed "office", the Taiwan affairs offices of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council have urged the Taiwan authorities not to maintain its "Two Chinas" intrigue, and welcomed all people and parties to take up anti-independence flag and exchange views on pushing forward the cause of reunification.

The magazine noted that from July, some New Party and Kuomingtang politicians and some popular representitives have visited the mainland at the invitation of ARATS and exchanged views with ARATS on many knotting problems blocking relations across the Taiwan Straits.

They reached a series of agreements on the basis of the "1992 ARATS and SEF (Straits Exchange Foundation) Agreements": firmly protesting against pro-independence and the "Two Chinas" theory; pushing forward direct trade, direct transport and direct postal service between the Straits, the article said, noting that these measures would definitely benefit cross-Straits political and economic ties as well.

The article noted however, while all the Chinese people -- including the Taiwan people, joined hands to fulfill the great cause of reunification of the motherland, some Taiwan "leaders" are racking their brains to ruin the fruits.

Tsai Ying-wen, head of Taiwan's "Mainland Affairs Council," has gradually been exposed as a separatist for her separatist words and thwarting efforts to block cross-Straits relations since she took office. Her splittist lines will harm both mainland and Taiwan people's interests and wills, the signed article said.

The article went on to say that as the "One China" policy is the popular will of all the Chinese people and protects their interests, any splitting activities will end in vain.
