Peace Wall Unveiling in Tianjin

A ceremony to unveil the newly-built Peace Wall, a symbol of friendship of children the world over, was held Saturday evening in this north China port city of Tianjin.

The wall is 23.5 meters long and 2.55 meters high. The wall doves flying in a blue sky among white clouds over a sea, symbolizing tranquillity and harmony.

Over 1,000 children from China, Britain, Russia, Japan and Spain signed their names on the wall, expressing their wish for eternal peace and long-lasting friendship in their own languages.

Tianjin Stamp Company also issued a first-day album with the peace wall in the cover.

The peace wall is part of the celebrations for International Children's Art Festival which started today. Organizers said children from 14 countries and regions, including Japan, the United States and Australia, will attend the five-day festival.
