Asian Marketing Professionals Seek Development in Internet Age

Hundreds of marketing professionals from across the Asian region gathered at the MarComAsia2000 Conference Wednesday in Hong Kong to offer insights on advertising skills and seek new development in the Internet age.

"To maintain an edge in today's highly competitive global market, international marketing professionals need a high degree of innovation and responsiveness," said Frederick Lam, Deputy Executive of the Trade Development Council of Hong Kong.

In his welcoming remarks to the two-day conference, Lam said that, with the economic transformation and the opening up of the Chinese mainland market, the advertising, marketing and communications industries have undergone rapid growth in recent years.

Meanwhile, "the advent of the Internet age has created enormous new challenges and opportunities for these industries," Lam added.

In reference to Hong Kong, Lam pointed out that the advertising, marketing and communications industries underpin Hong Kong's status as a leading regional marketing and communications hub, and form an important part of its services sector.

Over the years, these industries have proven crucial to Hong Kong's economic development, bridging the gap between supply and demand and stimulating business development, he said.

Dedicated to the advertising, marketing and communications industries, the annual MarComAsia Conference provides a platform for industry practitioners to exchange information and to share their experience.

This year's conference covers four areas, including advertising, marketing, the Internet and the Chinese mainland market.

Prominent industry experts from leading international advertising and marketing firms will share their experience on advertising skills, case studies of successful marketing and brand-building, Internet marketing and latest researches on the Chinese mainland market.

The MarComAsia2000 Conference is part of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's efforts to help enhance Hong Kong's position as Asia's media, advertising and marketing center.

Hong Kong is a leading exporter of advertising and market research services. In 1998, Hong Kong's exports of these services amounted to 2,149 million US dollars.
