Blueprint For Highway Network in Lhasa

Experts from Jiangsu transport institutes and the Lhasa Transport Bureau have worked out a blueprint to build a highway network construction project in three years in this capital city of Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China.

The project is sponsored by Jiangsu Provincial Transport Department.

The project will concentrate on renovating and upgrading existing highways. Two horizontal and two longitudinal trunk lines and four key highway sections will make up the basic framework of the network within two years.

Lhasa will also reinforce highway construction along famous local scenic spots.

As the region has no access to water and railway transport services, highways play a vital role in developing the local economy. Highways handle 92 percent of the cargo transport in Lhasa with the remainder covered by air and pipeline services.
