Bangladeshi President Reiterates Support for One-China PolicyBangladeshi President Shahabuddin Ahmed Thursday reiterated his support for China's stand on human rights and the Taiwan issue when receiving the credentials from the new Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka, Hu Qianwen.Taiwan is an indispensable part of China, the president said, expressing his belief that Taiwan will finally be reunited with mainland China under the "One China, Two Systems" policy. Welcoming the Chinese ambassador, Shahabuddin said the shared experiences, mutual understanding and cooperation bind Bangladesh and China, and the two countries cooperate closely on matters of mutual interest in the United Nations and other international organizations. The president appreciated the valuable assistance of China for the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Bangladesh, citing a number of bridges constructed with the Chinese assistance. The existing friendly bilateral relations would be further strengthened through greater cooperation, especially in the fields of trade, commerce and investment, he said. Recalling the age-old friendly relations between China and Bangladesh, Ambassador Hu said there is ample opportunity for further enhancing the existing bilateral relations. As neighboring countries, China-Bangladesh friendship will develop further, he said, adding that China will continue to cooperate with Bangladesh in her economic development efforts. Earlier, on his arrival at the president's office, the ambassador was given a guard of honor by the president's guard regiment. He took salute and reviewed the guard. |
