UNESCO Chief to Visit China, DPRK and South Korea

The secretary general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Koichiro Matsuura, will visit China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and South Korea from August 19 to 26, said UNESCO in a communique Thursday.

During his visit in China, Matsuura will visit the Zhongguancun Scientific and Technological Park in Beijing, and the Center of Human Genome at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

During his stay in DPRK with which UNESCO has official relations, Matsuura will visit a photo exhibition on the Koguryo Miracle Tomb, an important cultural heritage of Korean nation.

He will inaugurate in Seoul the Asia-Pacific Educational Center for International Understanding which is built by the South Korean government with the support of UNESCO.
