Talented Overseas Chinese Encouraged to Develop in China

China is a good place for overseas talent to develop their skills and expertise, according to a senior official in charge of overseas Chinese affairs.

In an interview with Xinhua, Guo Dongpo, director of Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council, said that since the mid-1990s, Chinese professionals residing abroad have been coming back in large numbers.

Incomplete statistics showed that so far overseas talented Chinese have established over 3,000 enterprises in various economic development zones.

Most of the enterprises are involved in information technology, bio-engineering, medical science, financial services and education. Some of them have been listed on overseas stock markets.

The Chinese government encourages and supports overseas Chinese to develop their skills in China. A number of preferential policies have been issued to attract more talent to return home.

China's imminent entry into the WTO and the ongoing drive to develop its vast western regions provides enormous opportunities for overseas talent, the official said.

Overseas Chinese who want to return home will find a lot of opportunities to use their skills in areas such as agriculture, the information industry, telecommunications and bio-engineering, Guo said.
