China, Finland Sign New Agreement on Scientific Cooperation

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Finnish Academy of Sciences (FAS) signed a new agreement on cooperation for the years beginning 2001 to 2003.

The accord was signed by Vice-President of FAS Heikki Kallio and his Chinese counterpart Wang Renzhi, who arrived here on Saturday for a 5-day visit.

According to the new agreement, the two institutes will further enhance an exchange of scientists, researchers and information, and encourage branch research institutes to establish direct relations.

The pacts were signed after a meeting between Kallio and Wang on August 15. Both sides agreed they were satisfied with the results of previous cooperation in the social sciences and humanities since they signed the primary agreement in 1990. China's ambassador to Finland Lu Xinhua also joined the meeting.

The delegation, led by Wang Renzhi, is planning to visit universities, research institutes, and museums in the near future. The visit is expected to end on August 18.
